The Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio
Lucas County Health Communities Foundation WellBiz

Mission Statement
The Foundation serves as a catalyst to assist members in assuming leadership roles in community health status improvement by providing information services, technical assistance; and promoting and advancing collaborative efforts between communities, hospitals, health systems and other health and human service organizations.

Since 1999, Lucas County members of the Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio—University of Toledo Medical Center, Mercy Health Partners, and St. Luke’s Hospital—have worked together through the Lucas County Healthy Communities Foundation to further community health improvement with a focus on measurable outcomes. Through the Foundation more than half a million dollars has been committed to a variety of community-based activities that have led to improved health and quality of life in Lucas County.

Current Initiatives
In 2007, the Foundation initiated WellBiz in partnership with the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce and Healthways and initiated the Northwest Ohio Tobacco Free Campus Initiative: “Healthy. Inside and out.” in conjunction with the Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio.

In 2008, the Foundation made a grant to the Northwest Ohio Strategic Alliance for Tobacco Control to continue their efforts and develop a strategic plan as well as supporting various other community based health improvement initiatives.
